Get to know me!

I’ve always had a passion for understanding and helping people.

I want to know what drives people to make certain decisions, and help them achieve them. This led me to procuring a bachelor’s degree in human development and family sciences, and a professional background in early childhood.

But wait, an early childhood teacher transitioning into UX design?

While being an early childhood teacher is incredibly exciting and fulfilling, I was itching to extend my impact on children’s lives to adult’s. After doing a bit of research, I stumbled upon something called “UX design”. My initial reaction was, is a career in tech really for me? However, after diving deeper and learning that these designers put the user first through advocating and helping solve user problems, I was hooked.

So, what are my philosophies?

Many companies have great product and business knowledge, yet may not have the expertise or insights of their day-to-day users. This is where my abilities come into play:

  • Explain it to me like I’m 5

Users don’t have time for a full 101 class every time they explore something new, and why should they? I create designs that are intuitive and familiar to users. Let me do the thinking, so our users can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

  • Don’t waste my time

Working with children, my ability to methodically manage time has been working overtime (pun intended). I follow the design process in the same way. Balancing efficiency with thoroughness, I ensure that every second of my time is put to good use, whether it be gaining more insights, creating a better solution, or achieving a breakthrough.

  • Users first, always

That’s what we’re all here for anyway, right? I’m able to empathize with users to the point where I might as well be one! As a designer, I leave my emotions out of the equation and never lose sight of our users needs and expectations, to ultimately provide the most viable experience.

When I’m not designing…

I love building Legos! To me, nothing sounds better than throwing on a good podcast or tv show, and embarking upon a brand new Lego set.

Baking is a passion passed down from my family. My mom would bake every weekend for as long as I can remember, and I’ve definitely carried along the tradition. Something about the precision of baking is a challenge I’m eager to take on every time!

When I’m not building Legos or exploring a new recipe, I’m probably hanging out with my pets! Not only did I adopt Brownie (left) and Theo (right), I’ve also rescued a handful of lost pets and enjoy volunteering at local animal shelters!
